FALL 2016

In Fall 2016, KOLT TA Training Program was attended by more than 150 new graduate teaching assistants from Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Graduate School of Social Sciences, Graduate School of Business and Graduate School of Health Sciences. Prior to the group microteaching sessions, new graduate teaching assistants were distributed with an evaluation form (rubric) in order to increase the quality of constructive feedback that they receive regarding their presentation and teaching skills.

FALL 2015

FALL 2014

In addition to the Effective Teaching Workshop, KOLT started to offer four elective workshops on Learning Principles and Teaching Methods, Classroom Management, Grading, and Blackboard. Instead of individualized microteaching sessions, group microteaching sessions included in TA Training Program.

FALL 2013

KOLT started to organize a training program for graduate teaching assistants in Graduate School of Social Sciences.

FALL 2012

In Fall 2012 KOLT continued to organize TA training programs. More than a hundred TAs attended workshops on effective teaching, and they registered individualized video recorded feedback sessions to improve their teaching skills. TAs were provided their videos for later viewing and self-reflection.

KOLT organized extensive TA training programs for MATH and CHEM TAs.

FALL 2011

KOLT organized 2 sessions of 3 workshops for Graduate Students in Fall 2011 to support lecture planning, teaching techniques, and classroom management issues.

The three day workshops were organized in the following manner:

  • Day 1: Introduction to approaches to teaching / Planning a class;
  • Day 2: Motivating students / The role of assessment in learning;
  • Day 3: Classroom management / Ethics in teaching and learning.

SPRING 2011

Koc Office of Learning and Teaching (KOLT) organized two sessions of teaching workshops for the KU graduate students in Spring 2011. Workshops were designed on the principles of active learning within peer groups. 3 meetings were held for each workshop. Each meeting lasted 90-100 minutes.Students who did not attend the previous meeting within that week were not able to participate in the subsequent meeting that week.Those students who complete the entirety of the series of three meetings received a certificate from KOLT.

  • Day 1: Introduction to approaches to teaching / Planning a class
  • Day 2: Managing the learning process / Motivating students
  • Day 3: Managing the learning environment / The role of assessment and ethics

FALL 2010

Koç University Office of Learning and Teaching (KOLT) organized two sessions of teaching workshops for the KU graduate students this fall.

Structure of the workshop

Each workshop will consist of 3 meetings. Each meeting will last 90-100 minutes. Students who did not attend the previous meeting within that week will not be able to participate in the subsequent meeting that week. Those students who complete the entirety of the series of three meetings will receive a certificate from KOLT.

We will admit up to 20 graduate students to each workshop.

Content of the workshop

Workshops are designed on the principle of peer group work and hands on activities.

The workshop program for each week is as follows:

  • Day 1: Introduction to approaches to teaching / Planning a class
  • Day 2: Motivating students / The role of assessment in learning
  • Day 3: Classroom management / Ethics in teaching and learning
