Koç University holds its student body to high standards. Students will benefit from their studies at KU most by striving to become “good learners”. A good learner works toward articulating his/her own academic interests.
We support the development of all of these skills in our students through a variety of services.
These services consist of:
- KOLT Tutoring Center (weekly tutoring sessions and reviews before exams),
- Conversation Circles
- UNIV 101 Seminars,
- Elective Seminars,
- Customized workshops for specific courses,
- Individual consultation with KOLT members.
A good learner...
… seeks out alternative sources of information in order to meet his / her educational needs.
… takes an active role in determining his / her educational needs
… is aware of his/her learning preferences (styles) and uses that awareness to learn effectively.
… takes initiative to shape his/her learning environment in order to acquire new information efficiently.
… goes beyond acquiring new information to critically evaluating and synthesizing that information.
… can apply his / her knowledge to solve real world problems.
… has an awareness of his/her diverse needs and commitments, in addition to his / her academic needs and commitments, and knows how to budget his/her time and attention to prioritize and to meet those needs and commitments.
… monitors and evaluates his / her own progress in achieving his/her academic goals.
